    Written by Dian VAULTIER·

    In Brief

    • Celadon is not a color, it is a variation.
    • Celadon refers to a thousand-year-old glazing technique, renowned for its shades ranging from soft green to blue-grey, reminiscent of jade.
    • The expertise of the HOLLIN tea sommelier: celadon ceramics decoded by a purist Tea House, with no added flavorings, based in Sartrouville (Île-de-France) and shipping its grand crus worldwide.

Celadon is not a color, it is a variation. And it is precisely this variation, impermeable and neutral, that makes it an ideal vessel for green teas.

    A jade-coloured treasure

Celadon refers to a thousand-year-old glazing technique, renowned for its shades ranging from soft green to blue-grey, reminiscent of jade. It can be found in Ru porcelain from China, as well as in Korea and Japan.

This ceramic is prized in the art of tea for its aesthetics, but also and above all for its neutrality of taste.

Why choose celadon for your green teas

Unlike the porous teapots of Yixing, celadon is impermeable. It retains no memory of herbal teas past.

It is therefore an ideal choice for discovering the purity of a green tea without aromatic interference. Each cup is a starting point, never a memory.

    A piece to live with

Each handcrafted celadon piece is unique: variations in kiln temperature create unpredictable transformations in the glaze, a phenomenon known as yao bian.

We display our celadon pieces alongside the teas best suited to them, in Sartrouville. You can come and hold them, with no obligation.
