Plants, origin and composition
L’Air Vif combines two organic plants : rooibos from South Africa, Aspalathus linearis, and peppermint leaves, Mentha x piperita. Rooibos is not a tea : it is a shrub from the Cederberg region whose needles are fermented, then sun-dried, giving them their red colour. It is naturally caffeine-free and rich in its own polyphenols, such as aspalathin. Peppermint brings its menthol, responsible for the sensation of freshness. A two-ingredient mint rooibos, with no added flavourings.
Organoleptic profile and liquor
The liquor is coppery red. The nose opens with clean, distinct peppermint, then the rooibos introduces its woody and lightly honeyed notes. On the palate, the roundness of the rooibos tempers the liveliness of the menthol : the cup remains smooth, never sharp. The finish is fresh and long. This peppermint rooibos is equally suited to a warm afternoon or an evening, since it contains no caffeine.
Brewing protocol and storage
Use 3 g for 20 cl, boiling water at 100 °C, 5 to 7 minutes of infusion. Rooibos does not become bitter over time : a long infusion simply enhances its roundness. For an iced version, cold-infuse overnight in the refrigerator, 8 g per litre. Keep the tin tightly closed : mint quickly loses its fragrance in the open air. Store it away from light and moisture.
